3 Signs You Have a Weakened Immune System (and How to Fix It)

Never have we found ourselves in a more crucial time for giving our immune systems their best shots at warding off dangerous viruses and colds. It is clear that we are living through a historically devastating time. We’ve seen the world ravaged by the horrors of the Coronavirus. Flu season looms heavy on the horizon, and while we still navigate this chaotic era of the Coronavirus, it’s important to know what kinds of signs indicate we have weakened immune systems, and how to deal with our weakened immune systems from there. Just having a little bit of a heads up that one’s immune system is weakened, can make a world of a difference.

1. Your stress level is through the roof

It’s not a random occurrence that so many of us fall sick after pushing ourselves to meet those important work or school deadlines. These experiences push our stress levels to unfortunate heights, and our bodies’ lymphocytes (white blood cells) decrease as a result. A decrease in these white blood cells, paves the way for infections to take hold and spread with newfound ease. The best way to maintain a healthy immune system while navigating the stresses of the academic and/or professional world is to practice healthy time management. From there, it is key to establish a hard stopping time for when the studying/work is done for the day. This boundary can work wonders in affording our bodies the time they need to unwind, and get adequate sleep.

2. You have an upset stomach — often

It turns out that almost 70% of your immune system is located in your digestive tract. That’s madness. Countless bacteria and microorganisms go to work in that digestive tract to fight the good fight, and ward off unwanted infections that ultimately support the immune system. We can give our digestive tracts the support they need by keeping up with a healthy diet. Doctor Danielle’s a great resource to look into for immune-boosting supplements. Her supplements are hypoallergenic, and contain no added binders, coatings, shellacs, artificial flavors, dyes, fragrances, or sweeteners. Her capsules are also vegetarian! The angriest of stomachs don’t stand a chance in the face of those capsules.

3. You’re troubled by frequent infections

The American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology’s research shows that warning signs of a potentially jeopardized immune system in adults include: over four ear infections a year, dealing with chronic sinusitis, requiring more than two courses of antibiotics a year, and developing pneumonia twice over a one-year period. The best way to proceed if anyone finds themselves checking all those boxes is to set up a doctor’s appointment ASAP, and work to identify whether or not they’re suffering the actual effects of a weak immune system.

We’ve taken a look at a few different red flags anyone with a watchful head on their shoulders should keep an eye out for. Our bodies are waging all kinds of wars inside of us that we (fortunately) rarely have to see. That being said, sometimes our bodies need the extra boosts, and if we’re able to catch the warning signs, we can give our bodies what they truly need. Sometimes this’ll be extra rest and less late night studying if we feel the flu symptoms coming on. Sometimes this will be starting up with a regimen that includes powerful antioxidants, dietary supplements, or a vitamin D supplement. The point is that we’re able to react in a swift manner and honor our important roles in aiding our bodies’ efforts to keep the whole show running smoothly!
