Should I take an Economics Primer or Hire an Economics Tutor?

I will finish high school this year, and plan to major in economics in college. My friend chose that major and told me she struggled through the first two semesters. A couple of other people have suggested that I take an advanced course that will help me be more prepared to excel at my university. I am ready to do it, but I want to know if it’s really worth it. I am wondering what program or tutor would be best to meet my goals and to get one-on-one attention.

It’s commendable that you want to improve your knowledge base before entering college —it’s also a really good idea. Economics is one of the toughest majors in many universities with a relatively high dropout rate. With quality help, such as  economics tuition in Singapore, you should do very well in your first year.

Before you hire thet tutor, you need to determine whether you’re getting the Best JC2 economics tuition available. There are many benefits to hiring a top-notch tutor, such as:

  • Hiring a knowledgeable tutor saves you money in the long run as you can master difficult concepts faster.
  • By investing in someone with proven teaching skills, you’ll do better in exams.
  • Choosing a trustworthy professional who encourages you, gives you the confidence you need for long-term success as an economics major.

It’s worthwhile to research available resources so that you find a tutor who fits your personality and study style. Developing a long-term relationship with your tutor can help you not only prepare for University but excel there in your first year and beyond.

How Much Experience Should Your Economics Tutor Have?

One of the things you need to be clear on is what you’re looking for in a tutor versus a teacher. A tutor has a lot more freedom to cover material that you feel you need a deeper understanding of.

“Teachers follow predetermined guidelines for the expectations for their class and evaluate students on that basis, while tutors focus on students’ individual academic needs and how to help them improve their skills in a specific subject,” according to study.com.

Recent university graduates with economics degrees make great tutors. The material is still fresh for them and they’re likely to be excited to talk about the subject. While you may want to choose a tutor who has some experience with students, it’s more important to find someone who agrees with you on how the tutoring process should work.

A great tutor will be able to suggest how to proceed with your sessions. You may have your own topics that you wish to cover. If not, consider asking your previous teachers what would benefit you the most in preparing for an economics major.

Making the Final Decision

The final decision on who you ask to become your tutor comes down to your personal preferences. Once you understand how far your tutor’s education went and have interviewed them on the topics they are most comfortable with, the decision becomes much easier.

If you are planning to study very advanced topics, you may even want to get someone with a Ph.D. Carefully look over the tutor’s profile for any details you may have missed. This may help you break a tie between your top choices.
