My long-time boyfriend and I are tying the knot, and I’m stressing about the ring. He’s not really a fan of gold, and I wanted to do something different. What other options are there for a man’s wedding ring?
Gold is a common choice for a man’s wedding ring, but it’s not the only option. Many couples are choosing to go the non-traditional route with their rings, and that opens the door to be a little more creative and thoughtful with your purchase.
Gold rings are timeless and beautiful, but they are also expensive. If you’re on a tighter budget, going with an alternative metal may allow you to choose a ring with character or one that has more meaning to you and your partner.
One of the first alternatives that comes to mind is titanium. This metal is actually favored by the aeronautics industry because it’s lightweight, durable and strong. Titanium also has a nice shine to it, so it’s a wonderful material for a wedding ring.
If you choose to go with a titanium wedding band, look for Commercially Pure (CP) titanium which is comprised of 99% titanium.
You can find titanium bands that are silver or gold, and they can be either shiny or matte. Some are adorned with precious or semi-precious stones. There are many creative options to choose from with titanium. And you won’t pay an arm and a leg for these rings. You can find prices as low as $100 or as high as $1,000 with adornments.
Ceramic is a lesser-known option for wedding rings, but we’re seeing more of them pop up in online shops. Modern ceramic rings are usually made of a combination of titanium and carbon. This creates a ring that is crack-resistant, lightweight and scratch resistant. It’s hypoallergenic, and it won’t easily get bent out of shape.
What’s great about ceramic is that you can find all sorts of designs and colors, from white to black to camo. Some have special elements, like dinosaur bone, while others are plain and elegant.
Prices of ceramic rings are comparable to titanium rings, so this is another budget-friendly option.
Tungsten is another popular option for men’s wedding rings, and they have a beautiful finish. This metal is extremely tough and resistant to scratching, so it’s a great option for men who are active or spend a lot of time working with their hands.
Costs can vary with tungsten rings, but they tend to be under $1,000 even for higher-end and more elaborate designs. The only real issue with this metal is that it doesn’t bend, so it will break if enough force is applied. This really shouldn’t be an issue, as it will still take considerable force to break tungsten.
These are some of the most common alternative metals for men’s wedding bands, but, of course, you can still choose sterling silver, platinum or another metal if you wish.
Remember that your wedding rings are a personal thing, so don’t let other people pressure you into buying something you don’t want or can’t afford.
