The One-Finger Salute

Thumbs up to spring break. We gave it a thumbs down last week, but this week, it’s seven days closer — we’re counting down in hours.

Thumbs up to the NCAA for choosing the Save Mart Center as the venue to host one of its women’s Regional last weekend. The event included some of the finest players in the country.

Thumbs down to the ostensibly great sports community in Fresno. The stands from aforementioned games looked empty to us on television and an internal correspondent reported attendance as “being not that great.”

Thumbs up to the Health Center for keeping us safe from nasty things like smallpox and tuberculosis and pregnancy. The deals on pain relievers at the pharmacy are pretty good too.

Thumbs up to the first annual Fresno State New Music Festival. The festival will begin Thursday and runs through Saturday evening. It features both local and international composers.

“The One-Finger Salute” is culled each week from discussions in The Collegian newsroom.
