California cuts half a billion from CSU budget

If students haven’t already been impacted enough by the current economic recession, this year they will take another hit as a result of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s passing of a $584 million budget reduction for the 23-campus California State University system. This will directly impact the Fresno State campus as the school budget will be cut by $44.6 million for the 2009-10 fiscal year.

Welty gives counsel at faculty assembly

President John Welty addressed the problems Fresno State’s faculty and students will face in the future at the annual faculty assembly on campus today. “We cannot let the budget define us this year,” Welty said. “Whatever the budget issues and fiscal uncertainties may be, we will not retreat from our vision.”

Fresno State employee furlough days begin Monday, Aug. 3

Monday, Aug. 3, will be the first unpaid furlough day for employees at California State University, Fresno. Administrative offices will be closed as part of the plan to help make up for a $16.3 million shortfall in state financial support. A second administrative furlough day is scheduled Aug. 10.
