Women of honor

In a historic decision, the Pentagon dropped its ban on women in the U.S. Armed Forces serving in combat roles, a move which has been met with much excitement and apprehension. The order was signed Jan. 24 by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Though it will continue to be under review and its effects will likely not be seen until as late as 2016, it has become a hot-button issue that has brought up questions on both sides of gender equality, physical aptitude and the nature of war itself.

ASI presents tobacco ban resolution to Welty

Just before Thanksgiving, ASI senators passed a bill that urges Fresno State President John Welty to create a tobacco-free campus. The resolution came with a bit of controversy, though, as ASI president Selena Farnesi did not sign or endorse the bill.

Four Loko should not be banned

On Wednesday, the state of joined the ranks of three other states banning drinks that contain alcohol and energy boosters. Four Loko, an alcoholic energy drink, was blamed for the alcohol poisoning of nine Washington college students a month ago. One student almost died.
