One week after Proposition 8 was ruled unconstitutional by a three-judge panel to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, several Fresno State students and community members met in downtown Fresno to show support for marriage equality. Same-sex couples requested marriage licenses from the Fresno County clerk knowing they would be denied.

People came from all over the Valley Friday to listen to a lecture and reading from distinguished American author Sandra Cisneros at Fresno State. The Collegian covered both the early discussion and the late-night reading, which drew in more than 500 people at the Satellite Student Union.

Fresno State took on the defending WAC champion Utah State Saturday night at the Save Mart Center. The ‘Dogs came out on top, 60-54 led by Kevin Olekaibe with 26 points. Fresno State is now 3-6 in the WAC and 11-15 overall.

The Bulldogs ended Hawaii’s three-game winning streak with a blowout Saturday night at the Save Mart Center. The Bulldogs racked up 83 points, led by Ki-Ki Moore, Alex Sheedy and Madison Parrish. The ‘Dogs held the Rainbows to just 48 points, not allowing a single 3-pointer all night. The Bulldogs increased their WAC record to a perfect 5-0, and 17-4 overall.

The women’s basketball team defeated the San Jose State Spartans 76-49, improving their overall record to 16-4, and 4-0 in the WAC. Ki-Ki Moore led the Bulldogs with 19 points.

Four nationally renowned artists showed their work at the 2nd annual Artist Invitational at Fresno State’s Conley Art Gallery. Although artists Kirkman Amyx, Richard Bruland, Roger Lee, and Hadieh Shafie all work with different media, a common theme was present in their works: all pieces illustrate a meticulous and repetitive process or method of creating art.

Associate professor of art Nick Potter organized the event with the assistance of the Conley Art Gallery committee, a group within the art department that is responsible for setting up shows at the gallery. “I really like the way the works connect to each other. That’s the most impressive thing to me,” Potter said about the works in the exhibit. “When you look at one work next to the other, the mediums almost start to blend a little bit. It’s something you have to see in person to realize how strange it is that it can happen.”

The exhibit opening reception on Jan. 24 had a great response, Potter said. It runs through Feb. 10 at the Conley Art Gallery, located west of lot A on the Fresno State campus.

The Fresno State men’s basketball team took on the Cal Poly Mustangs at the Save Mart Center on Dec. 17, 2011. The Bulldogs came up short, 65-46, making them now 4-7 in non-conference play. WAC play begins Jan. 2, 2012 against Boise State.

The women’s basketball team took on the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners at the Save Mart Center on Dec. 15, 2011. The Bulldogs came out ahead 88 to 59, draining 3-pointers throughout the game. New head football coach Tim DeRuyter stopped by at halftime to let the fans get to know him better.
