Learning about issues that affect our society is one of the most important aspects of the college experience.

Lying. It’s what we do.

We lie for justifiable reasons: We lie for convenience, to exaggerate, to cover up mistakes or to protect a friend. We lie to evade punishment and we lie to evade nagging.

Clubs and student organizations are a staple of many students’ collegiate experiences. Members of Frente, a colorguard group based on campus, put their own spin on extra curricular activities.

Ah, publicity stunts. Some of the best play on a sense of humor to gain attention from a larger audience, usually to sell more products or create a reputation for a company. Some of the worst flirt with poor taste and turn off potential customers.

Brandon Flowers, who is best known as the front man for The Killers, released his first solo album, “Flamingo,” earlier this month. While his band is taking what they call a “hiatus,” Flowers cracks his creative knuckles on his own.

What do you think of when you hear the prase “American dream?” A big house in the suburbs? A white picket fence? A family with three children?
