Staff Reports
The Collegian
In recent years, the Fresno State baseball team has struggled in its opening series. Luckily for the Bulldogs, this year’s kick-off series comes at home, where they have been rock-solid under head coach Mike Batesole.
There is still bad news, however. The San Francisco Dons enter this season with most of the memebers from its 2006 squad, when it went 39-23, the best in program history.
For the Dons, LHP Aaron Poreda returns as the ace and leading ERA man from the West Coast Conference with a 2.49 ERA.
For the Bulldogs, the main point of concern is pitching, but a now veteran group of pitchers will start the weekend series. Friday pitcher Brandon Miller is effective when the ball is at the knees, otherwise it’ll be trouble. The good news is offensively, the Bulldogs should have no problem scoring runs.
