Romero named to Clemens watch list; 'Dogs get first recruit

Fresno State pitcher Eddie Romero has been added to the Roger Clemens Award watch list. The award is given annually to the top collegiate pitcher in the nation.

Romero is fifth among the nation’s win leaders with a 9-2 record entering the final months of the regular season.

Basketball

Fresno State men’s basketball coach Steve Cleveland has announced the signing of junior front court player Alex Blair.

The 6-foot-8 inch forward played for Highland Community College in Freeport, Ill. last season. Blair averaged 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game during the season while shooting 55.4 percent. His team finished No. 4 in the 2005-06 NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball national poll.

“Alex is an outstanding defender and rebounder,” Cleveland said in a press release. “His competitiveness in term of interior post defense is what this program needs right now. I love his aggression level and his competitiveness. He is a team player and an outstanding student.”
