Associated Students has passed two resolutions criticizing a plan to tear down the campus ampitheater to make room for a new University High School.
AS considered circulating a petition in support of the resolutions, Juan Pablo Moncayo, executive vice president of AS, said. They may still do so, but for now copies of the resolution will be distributed to campus officials.
The first resolution expressed the senate’s disapproval of the usage of the amphitheater located next to the Music and Speech Arts buildings for a new UHS campus.
During their Thursday meeting, the Senate expressed the desire to see the amphitheater space used for something that would benefit Fresno State students. Space for things such as academic buildings and parking are in short supply and the enrollment at Fresno State is rising steadily and AS does not want to see UHS take up such valuable space.
Moncayo said using the amphitheater space for UHS is inappropriate.
