Student protest against CSU fee raise planned

At least one Fresno State student will be among representatives from all 23 CSU campuses at a rally against a fee hike tomorrow in Long Beach.

Associated Students President Jennifer Reimer, who was also recently elected chair of the California State Student Association, will be one of about 200 students protesting a proposed 8 percent fee increase at a Thursday morning CSU Board of Trustees meeting.

Reimer said she hopes to fulfill both her duties while in Long Beach.

“I try to wear both hats,” she said. “Fresno State is always a priority, but I need to represent all campuses.”

Reimer said the protest was first planned only two weeks ago at a CSSA meeting in Stanislaus. She also hesitated to use the word “rally” to describe the event.

“We try to take an educated, rational stance,” she said.

Any student wishing to attend should contact Reimer as soon as possible. She can be reached at 278-2656 or 285-5753.
