The Fresno State Poetry Jam Club is holding a fund-raising event to collect money for the hurricane relief effort today.
The club is presenting a public poetry reading and will be accepting donations to aid those victims of Hurricane Katrina. The event features performances from Connie Hales, a professor with the English Department, students from her graduate poetry workshop and members of the Poetry Jam Club.
“We are working with Chris Fiorentino in the Students for Community Service Office,” Ria Williams, Poetry Jam Club President, said in an e-mail. “[We] will be turning our donations over to them to send to various organizations contributing to the relief.”
Fiorentino said his office is happy to accept donations to help Katrina victims.
“We’ll divide up the donations and give them to numerous nonprofit organizations like the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army,” Fiorentino said.
The event will be held in the Free Speech Area from 6- 7:30 p.m.
