There’s a bumper sticker that says, “Don’t blame me. I voted for the other guy.”

As disapproving and satirical as this is of the administration in power, it does confess that the owner of the bumper sticker did at least vote! There’s nothing more annoying in the world of a representative government than someone who did not vote, but still finds the breath to complain about the outcome.

This is no less of a truth at the college level than it is at the national level. today and Thursday is your opportunity to get out and cast your vote for very important collegiate issues that will not only have a definite impact on you, regardless of the amount of time you have left at this institution of higher learning, but will also have a lasting effect on the future of the university.

Our yet-to-be-elected Associated Students president, vice president of finance and fifteen senators will be responsible for debating and deciding on some very important issues — issues involving student money.

Our student government, though it often operates behind the scenes, molds and shapes the climate and conditions of many of the programs that make your daily experience here at Fresno State what it is.
In addition to dealing with important student issues behind the scenes, AS is also your representative voice to the faculty. After all, the university exists for the sake of students. The faculty and administration are here to serve the students, not vice versa.

It is important for students to have a voice that represents their interests in campus committees and the academic senate.

The people we elect today and Thursday will be the watchdogs looking out for those interests. Though we don’t always realize everything that AS does for the student body, they continue to look out for that student body. So play a role in government that looks out for you. Vote.
