Barton Avenue is back open with fresh pavement

The Barton Avenue entrance to Fresno State from Shaw Avenue reopened to traffic Friday afternoon.

New sidewalks now extend along the west side of the street from Shaw Avenue, on the east side of the University Courtyard complex. Before, university housing residents had to cross a lawn to walk to the library and the center of campus.

Work is still underway however. A new irrigation system is being installed and new trees will be planted. In addition, the parking meters on the west side of the Student Health and Counseling Center have not been reinstalled yet.

Pedestrians and drivers in the area should be alert for construction activities. Construction on Barton Avenue was part of a host of summer projects planned at Fresno State.
