A pie in the face means money for Student Cupboard

With midterms coming up for Fresno State students, Associated Students, Inc. found a way to help the student body release some pent-up nerves on Tuesday.

The Pie an ASI event was held in The Pit as a way for ASI to raise funds for the Student Cupboard.

“The Student Cupboard is an area that gives free food to college students, and so nine times out of 10 it’s intended for the students that are struggling,” said Travis Childress, ASI senate secretary.

As a way to get students to donate, a ticket to “pie” an ASI member cost 50 cents. All the proceeds then went to the Student Cupboard.

B95, a frequent collaborator at Fresno State events, hosted the activities.

As the day went on, students lined up to get a chance to pie the familiar faces of ASI members.

“Two of my [sorority] sisters are actually being pied right now, and I just wanted to come and support them and support ASI as well,” said Suwaine Manning, a fifth-year kinesiology major.

For the ASI members involved, the activity was a fun way to make students more aware of organizations like the Student Cupboard

“I’m enjoying just getting to hang out with all the ASI people, having a good time instead of like focusing on business and dancing along to music,” said Cassandra Ramirez-Sanchez, senator of athletics and recreations.

While many came out to support their fellow classmates or donate to Student Cupboard, other students had simple motives.

“I wanted to pie people in the face,” said Maximillian Correa, a third-year psychology major.
