LOS ANGELES — A handful of fliers posted at the University of California, Los Angeles promoting a “white students group” that school officials say does not exist on campus have been removed, officials said Wednesday.

UCLA maintenance workers found three or four of the hand bills taped to buildings on Monday, said campus spokesman Tod Tamberg.

“Recent rhetoric and ongoing riots have highlighted a danger to white Americans,” the fliers declared. “We are a group that is interested in discussing what can be done … ”

The fliers listed a website, a Twitter account and an email address for more information. Tamberg said that none of the groups listed is affiliated with UCLA and that the school has no white students group.

The fliers were removed because they violated the school’s content-neutral posting regulations, which restrict the display of fliers by non-school affiliated groups, Tamberg said.

“As (UCLA) Chancellor (Gene) Block and President (Janet) Napolitano affirmed in their statement last week, UCLA and the UC are proud of our diversity and remain committed to supporting all members of our community and adhering to UC’s Principles Against Intolerance,” Tamberg said. “Divisive and racist language do not reflect the ideals that we set for ourselves on this campus. UCLA defends First Amendment rights and strongly encourages all members of our community to be respectful of one another as they engage in honest dialogue and debate.”

Campus police are not investigating the incident because no crime was committed, officials said.
