MCJ Dept. raises money for tornado victims
Two weeks ago today, a record breaking 312 tornados swept through the Southern United States in one 24-hour period. Hundreds were killed and thousands were left homeless.
In a two-hour relief effort on Monday, The Mass Communication and Journalism Department raised $752 in cash donations and gift cards from Walmart or Target for the people of Alabama and the surrounding states. All donations were directed to the American Red Cross.
“We don’t hear about what all is going on in the media down in the south, that’s yesterday’s news,” Dr. Tamyra Pierce, chair of the Mass Communication and Journalism Department said. “For the people of Alabama and the surrounding states, it is today’s reality.”
