The offensive showcase fans expected to witness in Bulldog Stadium has yet to develop.

In a game pinning a pair the Western Athletic Conference’s premier quarterbacks, it took both the final two minutes of the first half to create any offensive fireworks for their squad.

Hawaii quarterback Bryant Moniz, who is playing his first game in Fresno, Calif. since his days in a Fresno Community College uniform, has 173 yards on 13-of-22 passing in the first half. Moniz came into the game leading the country in passing yards with 1,869 and opened the game’s scoring on Hawaii’s first possession, hitting receiver Greg Salas from 30 yards out to take a 7-0 lead.

Likewise, Fresno State senior quarterback Ryan Colburn struggled for much of the first half before connecting with freshman Jalen Saunders on a 50-yard score with 1:26 remaining to put the ‘Dogs up 10-7. Colburn came into the game leading the WAC in pass efficiency and finished the first two quarters 10-for-15 for 106 yards.

Running back Robbie Rouse returned to his starting position for the first time since the season-opening victory over Cincinnati. The sophomore has been plagued by ankle and shoulder injuries the past three weeks, but leads all rushers with 34 yards at the break.

Moniz and the Warrior offense retook the lead just before half as the junior connected with Greg Salas from 8 yards, pushing the score to 14-10.

Both Rashad Evans and Jamel Hamler returned to action after being sidelined with injuries. Hamler, who was a game time decision, has just one catch while Evans has three catches for 16 yards.
