Fresno State residence hall evacuated; no injuries
Graves Residence Hall was evacuated at approximately 11:15 p.m. on Sunday evening, according to Battalion Chief Casey Clark of the Fresno Fire Department.
Clark said the evacuation was a result of an odor that caused discomfort to students.
According to a press release from the university, symptoms included scratchy throats, itchy eyes and coughing.
“Most of this was minor,” Clark said.
Twenty-five students were evaluated by Emergency Medical Services, but Clark said no students were taken for additional medical assistance. Students were admitted back into Graves Hall after an hour and a half. He also said that when the hazmat team entered the building, the odor had dissipated and they were unable to find a source.
While Clark said the cause of the incident was unkown, he speculated that it could be the result of someone spraying something into the air. The other possibility is a spill, but Clark said they found no evidence of that.
“It was probably something sprayed,” Clark said.
Two fire engines, three ambulances and one hazmat truck were on scene.
