University High students cause elevator mishap
Approximately 10 University High School students were stuck in an elevator in the Henry Madden Library for 45 minutes on Tuesday afternoon, University Police officials said.
According to Amy Armstrong, the Public Information Officer for the University Police Department, the elevator stopped functioning correctly due to improper usage by the students.
“When they were in the elevator, they all jumped, which set off the emergency mode in the elevator,” Armstrong said in a phone interview to The Collegian.
The automatic shutdown of the elevators is in place in case of emergencies, such as earthquakes or fires, Armstrong said.
According to Armstrong, dispatchers received a call from the emergency phone located inside the elevator at 4:12 p.m. The elevator remained inoperable until a technician came to repair and reset the elevator.
The Principal of University High School was informed of the students’ actions, Armstrong said.
“It’s not something that’s appropriate to do,” Armstrong said.

Just kids being kids, no harm no foul. Really, college kids have done worst things and those kids at UHS deserve some fun because they are the some of the most smartest hardworking people in the State!!

Let’s understand that only 10, of the one hundred forty some freshmen at that high school did this act. They will most likely be justly punished, and we must respect those kids for their scholarly passion. Many kids I see are being studious and behaving quite above other kids of their age. Proper action against those 10 kids must be taken, but I do not condemn those not involved.

As a hardworking University High School student, I’m ashamed that some of my fellow freshman would cause such a mess. This type of behavior is unacceptable and sets an absolutely terrible example for us freshman and UHS in general. I did not take place in this act and would never dream of doing anything like this. The freshman class is getting together and 40 volunteers will approach the dean tomorrow to try to get UHS a better reputation with CSUF. Like “Bob” said only 10 out of the 140 freshman did this, and I don’t think any of the other 130 including me would eer dream of doing something like this.
We hope this will not dramatically affect our privileges and that we will still have the honor of being able to use the college’s resources.

We had no malicious intents for the elevator or any UHS or CSUF students, and we all feel like complete morons for what happened. Although nothing broke and nobody was injured, we as a group would like to say that we feel like crap for what occured, and several of us cried today and were depressed about it. We offered to pay the school for any damage, and we will do whatver it takes to make things right for future students. Again, we are VERY sorry. thank you.

As a fellow Freshman of UHS, it has been my dream to attend this prestigous school for many years! I’ve worked hard, made many mistakes, and helped those in need. I believe we should get over this “Elevator Mishap”. No one got hurt, and nothing was damaged(that i have heard). With all these worries and issues we’re making of it, we aren’t gonna be able to focus on our studies and do well. The Freshman that were involved are really sorry, and have appologized to everyone. Thank goodness I was not having to use the library that day, because I would’ve been pissed, especially knowing that some immature little kids messed up a brand new elevator in a brand new library. Seriously little guys, find something else better to do with your time instead of giggling over all jumping at the same time. How about that homework that’s due soon? I guess your mommies gave packed too many sodas in your lunch that day. Haha.
I didn’t come to this school so i can have little kids causing problems from thoughtless actions. I am looking forward to the UHS being further away from the center of school :) Nothing personals sorry, but just sayin.

They don’t have much in the way of sports, the electives are being turned almost completely academics. So if these students feel the need to rebel in some form or feel like they need to have some fun before they fully become an adult, then who is to blame them. At least the actions are not those of most high school students. I am not trying to say what they did was right, I am just asking that you look at the world before you judge these students.

Violence still exists in high schools in Fresno. One of my best friends was put in the hospital thanks to an incident at her school that she wasn’t even involved in. One day I’m hoping to take the knowledge from my major and use it to cure diseases such as cancer. I already work in the hospital in the ER. I have saved several lives in my time there.
