CSU to consider fee increase
The California State University Board of Trustees will consider at their May 13 meeting an increase of student fees by 10 percent ($306 per year for undergraduates), which was included as part of the 2009-10 budget adopted by the legislature.
The increase would raise full-time academic year fees for undergraduates to $3,354 per year, while teacher credential students would pay $3,894 per year. Graduate student fees would rise to $4,134. CSU undergraduate and graduate fees continue to be among the lowest of all universities across the nation.
Revenues from the state fee increase will provide $127 million, with one-third or $42 million set aside for financial aid. The remaining revenue will be used to offset reductions in state General Fund support to the CSU.
In addition to the state fees, there are individual campus fees. At Fresno State, campus fees total $639 per year.
The CSU has created “Budget Central” for online information on the proposed fee increase, budget, affordability and more. It can be accessed at www.calstate.edu/budgetcentral.
