Imagine getting your heart hacked out of your chest and stuffed into a heart-shaped box of chocolates. This is exactly what serial killer Harry Warden does to his victims in the slasher flick “My Bloody Valentine.”

“My Bloody Valentine,” with or without the 3D, starts off as many splatter films often do: with a brief prologue that sets up the story, and a swift pickaxe through the eye.

“Supernatural” hottie Jensen Ackles stars as mining heir Tom Hanniger, who has been left to die at the hands of mad miner Harry Warden (Rich Walters), only to be awakened from a coma after surviving a mining accident that killed five.

Abandoned by girlfriend Sarah (Jaime King) and best bud Axel (Kerr Smith), Hanniger skips town after the massacre only to return 10 years later, after the death of his father, to shut down the mine.

Before long, the ghost of the long-dead Harry Warden is up to his old tricks again, wreaking havoc on the once quiet community with his trademark gas mask, pickaxe and fetish for grisly valentines.

The sex is quick, and the murders clever and gruesome, satisfying the bloodlust of hardcore horror fans while never skimping on plot.

Tom’s ex Sarah, now married to town sheriff Axel, is increasingly confused by old feelings as she struggles to uncover the elusive killer’s identity before it’s too late.

While a tad too predictable to be considered fresh, “My Bloody Valentine,” a remake of the 1981 Canadian shocker, has enough solid story and acting to flesh out what could otherwise have been just another mindless gorefest.
