WEB-SPE@K: Should athletes be held to a higher standard?

Michael Phelps apologized for smoking marijuana this past week by saying he acted in a “youthful and inappropriate way.” Should athletes be held to a higher standard of behavior?

    Try just going to class….

My partner is a student. He tells me that the jocks get first dibs on class registration. That’s fine–IF they show for class, that is. In one of his classes, two jocks have not bothered to show up since the first day of classes. There are people waiting to get in, but because of class caps (caused by the state budget crisis), they can’t. Here are these two empty seats, but the instructor can’t drop them because they’re athletes. What a pile of crap!!
