Unfortunately, the area surrounding campus has a big problem with crime and criminals. Lots of drugs and parolees living along Bulldog Lane and the Sin City area (what’s now called El Dorado Park) has had a strong gang presence for years. A Fresno PD sergeant mentioned to me earlier this year that they do undercover operations and sweeps on Bulldog Lane on a regular basis–like when there was the armed robbery series during the summer and fall of 2007.
The off-campus problems come onto campus routinely. Car thefts and burglaries, armed robberies, drive-bys, drug sales, and the occasional gang rumble have been campus occurrences over the years, and most of the perps live close to campus. One of the frats had some party crashers about a year ago who ended up shooting a couple of fratties when they got bounced out.
The campus cops do a pretty good job, and get very little recognition for the job they do with the small crew they have to do it with.
Maybe it was a black male because it was a black male!

why does the first comment have to target race issues? the victim of this crime probably say black because umm… maybe that’s what she observed?!… unless person w/ first comment KNOWS any different about the suspect….

Unfortunateley our campus administrators are too DUMB to make our campus safer.
They have hidden cameras on campus theres about 10 od them. They should look back on video files.
Also if president WELTY followed the law like hes suppose to, they would comply with the UNIVERSITY POLICY ON VIDEO MONITORING
AND SURVEILLANCE ACTIVITIES
it clearly states that information and signage indicating that video monitoring is in use shall be made in those areas.
This is how you deter crime. It could have been avoided. If i was that student i would sue tha campus for another lawsuit

The cameras are hidden? I’m on campus pretty often and I’ve seen them–they are highly visible. I think :undercover” has Homeland Security on the brain. The mere fact the cameras are visible (like in the Free Speech Area for example) complies with the campus policy.
As for cameras deterring crime, the jury is out on that one. Several recent studies examining video policing in London, Los Angeles and San Francisco concluded video policing has virtually no impact on crime. The SF and LA studies reached the conclusion that the cameras simply relocate crime, i.e. the same crime occurs, just elsewhere.
Cameras can be a valuable investigative tool, providing follow-up detectives with images that can enable them to id the perp. The City of Fresno just passed an ordinance setting standards for private video systems in businesses (e.g. convenience and liquor stores) to make them more useable for after the fact investigations.
A lawsuit–that’s laughable!

The description says black male because that is what he was. I am the victim and had a clear shot of him as he was holding a knife to my side. Thank you for the other comments. I appreciate the feedback. There is no racial slur here so please don’t even bring that crap in to the mix. I don’t care if he was freakin purple. The guy had a knife to my side and stole everything including my wedding ring. I had a good description of him and he happened to be black. People of all races commit crimes. There is no racial stabbing here. I am the victim- not him!

I don’t care what color he is, but why he gotta be a Raiders fan?
