Ummm... where's the story on Obama?

Not even a news brief?

It's cool. It was only a historic moment and everything.

And if McCain had given a speech last night, I'd still be questioning why Welcome Week was more important than writing about a presidential nominee.

I know, you assume students get their national news online and on TV, so no need to write about it. And I know it's a student paper, so I understand the need to report what goes on inside the campus bubble... because events at this university matter, too.

But I don't think 800 words should've been devoted to Welcome Week and zero to Obama.

While it disappoints me that the editor-in-chief is mistaking The Collegian's "convergence" for an opportunity to boost his broadcast background, at this point, I don't care how you inform students about this election. Use the print edition, online news briefs, little Web videos, whatever you want. Just take some responsibility and cover an issue that students actually care about.

It's your duty to inform us about our candidates and how their plans for the future will directly affect students.

It's not about Obama or McCain, Democrat or Republican.

It's about responsible journalism.
