Advice: Don't go to a job fair with a collection of friends who are your race/look just like you/share similar values/faith/minset as you. In a Fresno Bee article a few years back I saw a picture from a Fresno State career fair. In it were a collection of four students looking for employment/internship opps at a local TV station. The students? A Yang, a Xiong, a Vue, and another Xiong. Immediately I question how outgoing and open minded you are if you're roaming a job fair with three people----none of which are outside your culture.

Collegian Staff Comment

This is a well written article. Its fun to read someone articulating the ridiculous "interview game" that must be played to get a job. While the tactics that we must employ to ensure a successful interview may seem silly, they are unfortunately necessary. When I interview, I always attempt to "turn the tables" on the employer. Instead of him/her pushing me to sell myself, it's fun to push them to sell me their company instead. By the time the interview is over, hiring me is a "given" in their eyes, its just contingent on whether or not I choose to work with THEM. Well done on this very entertaining editorial.
