Students and staff at Fresno State marked the one year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings at the Virginia Tech Memorial Garden on campus Wednesday.

President John D. Welty and student director of USU Productions Kathy Paez placed a wreath on the boulder in the garden that pays tribute to the 32 students and faculty who were killed on April 15, 2007.

In his remarks, Welty said, “It is a time for each of us at Fresno State to consider how we can best set an example of peacefulness that will resonate through our families and our friendships out into the community we are all trying to improve.”

Lt. Gov. John Garamendi also attended the ceremony.
