The One-Finger Salute

Thumbs up to Cesar Chavez Day. Besides celebrating a champion of a good cause, and one that is particularly important to the Central Valley, we were very appreciative of the the three-day weekend, even if other schools in the area didn’t get the same luxuries.

Thumbs down to April Fools’ Day. One member of the staff had a roommate and ostensible friend who gave her a piece of gum that turned her teeth black just minutes before going into an interview. She was furious, but didn’t have enough time to clean her mouth out, and so tried to explain to her interviewers her predicament. Unfortunately, the company she was applying for wasn’t as compassionate as she had hoped and rejected her on the spot, and proceeded to scold her about being “unprofessional.” Within a few hours, both parties were inquiring about new living situations, a years-old friendship ruined.
Just kidding.

Thumbs up to Guitar Hero in its various incarnations. Really, who doesn’t want to be rock star?

Thumbs up to the Fresno State baseball team, who won three out of four games this weekend against their rivals, the Nevada Wolf Pack. Go ’Dogs!

Thumbs down to this final stretch of class before the end of the semester. While we’re ready for the year to end -— many of us ready to graduate — we find the relentless barrage of midterms and essays and projects we’re facing a bit daunting. And we don’t even have any more three-day weekends!
