Celebrating César Chávez Day
Fresno State celebrated the life and work of César E. Chávez on Friday. The celebration included keynote speaker Sarah Reyes’s speech, “A Call for Unity,” a performance by the Lost Danzantes de Aztlan dancers (above) and a garlanding ceremony at Chávez’s statue in the Peace Garden, which was founded by Chávez’s friend Sudarshan Kapoor, Ph.D., a professor emeritus of social work education (right). Chávez campaigned for farm workers’ rights and founded the National Farm Works Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. Chavez died on April 23, 1993. The Fresno State campus was closed on Monday in honor of César Chávez Day.

I bet no one in that picture knows what Cesar did in his lifetime. Thanks for the day off, but this is a holiday. What about George Bush day? He has done more for our country. Hell, what about Bret Michaels day?
