1998 softball national champions honored

(Left) Members of the 1998 national champion softball team were honored before Sunday’s game against Houston at Bulldog Diamond. The celebration marked the 10-year anniversary of the national championship. Deputy Mayor Jeff Eben declared yesterday as Softball National Championship Day. The 1998 squad remains the only athletic team in school history to win a national championship.

(Below left) Shortstop Haley Gilleland lays a tag on Houston’s Christa Raley during Sunday afternoon’s 3-0 loss to No. 14 Houston. The Bulldogs finished in second place in the Bingham Toyota Classic this weekend. Fresno State went 4-1 in the tourney, defeating Sac State, Cal Poly, Rhode Island and Santa Clara.
