Great article. I played Division 1 water polo at SDSU as well as on the club team here at Fresno State while in grad school. At SDSU, we were 5th in the nation, and currently they are 3rd in the nation. With that being said, SDSU continues to recruit the best-of-the-best from a range of high schools across cities in the valley; from Sacramento to Bakerfield. The fact that Fresno state does not have a 'functional' pool is not an excuse! For 3 out of the 4 years I played at SDSU, we practiced at city pools off campus; yes, we drove off campus at 5:30 a.m. for morning practice, as well as afternoon practice. Think of all the awesome aquatic facilities in Fresno, including the brand new one that just opened up at Clovis North High School that would've allowed a women's water polo team at Fresno State to be possible. The Fresno State Women's Water Polo "Club" team was 1st in the nation last year! The fact that water polo was not considered as an additon to Fresno State's collegiate sports teams for women is pathetic on the part of our athletic administration and it is a down right shame for what could have been an amazing program for this community. Who are the people that make these decisions anyway? I'm glad one person is happy about this, good thing they consulted the community of Fresno first.

I think the season starts in spring of 2009 to be sure. Multinovich is wrong on this count as well. The school does need a secondary venue for soccer and other field team sports. The football stadium is not adequate and too cavernous. A local boy's lacrosse team is holding a tournament on Saturday mar. 1st in Koligian Park in north Fresno.
