Voter registration deadline looming
With the California primary moved up four months from June to Feb. 5, the window to register to vote is closing fast. In addition to presidential candidates, several state propositions will be on the ballot. If you need to register to vote, below are instructions explaining what to do. If you have already registered and do not know what to do next, included are instructions about finding polling places and absentee ballots.
If you aren’t registered to vote:
You can register until 15 days prior to the election. If you want to vote on Feb. 5, the deadline is Jan. 22.
You can get a registration form from the Fresno County elections office on 2221 Kern St., and also from post offices, libraries, DMV offices or fire stations.
If you are registered to vote in Fresno County:
You can use the Web site www.co.fresno.ca.us to find your polling place. If you are going to be busy Tuesday, you can request an absentee ballot (request due by Jan. 29), or you can go to the county elections office as early as 29 days before the election. You could go vote there now, if you wanted.
If you are registered to vote elsewhere and are attending Fresno State:
You can vote in your home district using an absentee ballot. You will need to contact the offices in your home county in order to receive an absentee ballot, and it needs to be sent back by 5 p.m. on election day. If you are from out-of-state, your primary election date may not be the same as California, and so you will have different deadlines.
