Women’s Basketball

The Bulldogs beat Long Beach 65-55 on Friday in their first win of the season.

Senior Tierre Wilson scored a career-high 28 points on 10 of 18 shooting from the field.

Senior center Erica Henry scored 11 points and junior guard LaShaunte Stephens chipped in 10 points off the bench.

Fresno State out-rebounded the 49ers 47-30.

Jaleesa Ross led the Bulldogs in rebounding with 10.

Wilson had seven boards, Henry six and Stephens and Hayley Munro each had five.

In the last two minutes of the game, the Bulldogs went nine-for-nine from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs are now 1-6.

Perera says so long

Former Fresno State All-WAC player Chantella Perera said goodbye to her former teammates and boarded a flight Tuesday to return to Australia to play professional basketball in her hometown.

Perera has spent the fall semester taking classes to complete her degree in business management and finished her final exams early so she could join her professional team, the Dandenong Jayco Rangers.

The team has already started competition and is a game out of fourth place in her league.

Faith Probst (2003-05), also a former Bulldog, plays on the team and has kept Perera informed on how her soon-to-be teammates are doing.

Perera finished her career as the eighth best scorer in Fresno State history with 1,234 points.

She made the fourth most 3-pointers (474) and free throws (293) and also had the second best free throw percentage in school history at 80.1 percent.

Men’s Basketball

The Bulldogs lost to defending Mountain West Conference Champion UNLV 84-71 on Saturday night.

Senior point guard Kevin Bell made 17 points and had six assists.

Center Shawn Taylor finished the night with a career-high 12 rebounds.

The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Rebels 41-36, who were 12-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Hector Hernandez has 16 points and Eddie Miller added 15.

At halftime, the Bulldogs were 9-of-30 at 30 percent.

Fresno State is now 5-4 on the season.
