I love this sort of reporting: Question a bunch of people about stuff they know barely anything about.

People get PISSED when record labels encrypt crap onto CDs. Sony got in big trouble a year or two ago for that.

Why would people pay for something that is painfully restricting and possibly damaging to computer software (when you try to burn the CD or move songs around) when they can get it for free with no strings attached?

Man-on-the-street interviews don’t involve experts, and on purpose. The idea is to get what a random selection of passersby think about a topic.

  5. Yes says:

But who says that’s a good idea in the first place?

Obviously some topics work better than others, like parking or tuition fees.

But we’re students and can talk to other students if we want to know what they think.

It’s something most students practice and have some experience in, like it or not. It’s something students are interested in and able to talk about.

They don’t need to be recording executives to have ideas. The merit of those ideas is something separate than the medium used to gather them.

Most students don’t ask seven strangers passing by about a single given topic. That’s why this can be a special insight.
