The One-Finger Salute
Thumbs up to the Bulldogs for their victory over the Bulldogs. While we certainly appreciate the win, we are in dismay over the’Dogs apparent inability to play well until the second halves of games. According to The Fresno Bee, the team has been outscored 70-18 in first halves this season by their opponents. Perhaps we should think about not letting the team play until after 8:30 p.m.
Thumbs down to thunder sticks, the plastic inflatable balloons that get passed out at football games and other sporting events. Face it — they’re loud and have the tendency to hit other fans in the back of the head. For us, these monstrosities are the definition of “obnoxious,” and definitely give us something to boo for.
Thumbs up to the reopening of Lot V, scheduled for today. Now that the lot is open again, 717 more parking spots will open up for student use this semester, hopefully alleviating the issue of trying to find a place to park your car on this campus — for most students, an epic struggle.
Thumbs down to Student Financial Services, which sent out notices last week informing students of a Oct. 8 deadline for fee payment. The e-mail directs students to their My Fresno State account, where a PDF of their statement is available for download. While we appreciate the notification, several of us at The Collegian received the e-mail and followed the instructions, only to reveal bills in the amount of zero dollars. We’re glad we don’t owe the school any more money, but it doesn’t make up for the minor heart attack we suffered upon reading the initial e-mail.
Thumbs up to George Harrison, the only member of The Beatles who never wrote a bad song. Respect.
“The One-Finger Salute” is culled each week from discussions in The Collegian newsroom.

George Harrison was great, but Lennon and McCartney didn’t exactly come up with a bunch of stinkers! I’m not sure which records you guys have been listening to.
And everyone knows Lennon’s solo stuff was the best of the post-Beatles material. Geez.

Everyone knows that “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a hell of a lot better than “Glass Onion.” So there. And Harrison released the most commercially successful triple album ever, post-Beatles.
